Shippers will soon have new direct weekly options to Europe from the Port of New Orleans. CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container carrier, announced today it is adding the Port to its Victory Bridge Service. CMA CGM will launch the service Feb. 2 with the arrival of the CMA CGM Jamaica at the Port’s Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal.

Fracht USA/Germany, a global freight forwarder, completed one of the heaviest project cargo lifts in the Port of New Orleans’ history Jan. 12, successfully discharging a 718-ton, 164-foot-long absorption tower from ship-to-barge.
Port of New Orleans cruise terminals handled more than 1 million cruise passengers in 2014 for the first time in its history. For the 12 months, embarkations and disembarkations totaled 1,014,325, an increase of more than 2.6 percent over 2013, a fourth straight record year for the Port.

Brandy D. Christian has been named the new Chief Operating Officer of the Port of New Orleans by President and CEO Gary LaGrange, succeeding Patrick J. Gallwey, who will retire March 1 after 34 years with the Port. Christian comes to the Port after 14 years with the Port of San Diego serving for the past five years as vice president, strategy and business development.
Officials with Norwegian Cruise Line and the Port of New Orleans signed a new four-year berthing agreement today with three one-year options. The agreement will keep at least one Norwegian cruise ship sailing seasonally from New Orleans through 2018 with the ability to extend the agreement through 2021.

International Fest to Attract Thousands of Attendees to the Port of New Orleans for Second Straight Year

International Fest, a FREE all-ages music and food festival, returns for a second year to the scenic Port of New Orleans on Saturday, October 18 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The festival will feature ten hours of live entertainment from local and international acts, food trucks providing international cuisine, and an eclectic Arts and Crafts marketplace.

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans awarded a $13.3 million construction contract to Metairie, La.-based Hard Rock Construction LLC today for the Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal improvement project at its monthly meeting. Hard Rock Construction was the lowest of eight bidders.
